Internship Description

JOB TITLE:                                         Intern

STATUS:                                            Full-time


LOCATION(S):                                   Rochester (preferred) or Schenectady

TIME FRAME JOB AVAILABLE:          Summer, Fall



Primary responsibilities will entail supporting all actuarial aspects related to MVP’s Medicare Advantage line of business. Will assist in pricing model development, data extraction and analysis, development of pricing and forecasting assumptions, development of corporate Medicare Advantage forecasts, historical performance reporting and budget to actual variance analysis. Will assist in annual rate development and filings. Will be expected to perform peer review of actuarial models and analyses as well as contribute to innovative thinking to advance the work product of the Actuarial Department. Will be expected to network with entire Actuarial team to broaden knowledge of all aspects of the Actuarial Departments scope of responsibilities and assist where necessary with any requested actuarial task. 


Minimum Education:

Pursuing a degree in Business, Math or related field. Additionally, successful completion of at least one Actuarial Exam is required with aspirations of attaining Associateship or Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries.

  • Ability to work independently, as well as work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer-focused communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments with attention to details and deadlines in a high volume environment.

Preferred Skills: 

  • Working knowledge of data warehousing, data extraction and modeling
  • Intermediate Excel skills including entering and editing complex formulas, filtering lists, sorting ranges, creating and running macros, and using data analysis tools (pivot tables, scenarios, etc.)
  • Intermediate knowledge of ACCESS
