Internship Description

The NYS Academy of Family Physicians is a medical society representing more than 6,000 Family Physicians and medical students in NYS. The Academy has an internship opportunity for an undergraduate student to support a campaign by an Academy leader for election to the board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

The student will learn how membership organizations function, how leadership positions in membership organizations are filled, how a political campaign is created and managed, and how policy positions are formed in the context of a political campaign. The focus of the position involves monitoring social media, reporting on policy discussions which occur over social media and using information obtained through monitoring social media to develop policy recommendations and political campaign materials and themes.


Computer literate and familiar with Facebook, Twitter and other social media. Must have good organizational and communications skills. Ability to synthesize and summarize information. Interest in health care policy would be very helpful.
